Summer time in South Africa means only one thing – time spent outside, enjoying the South African sunshine! Our Spa Manager, Tanya Lopes, has some tips on how to achieve that sought after summer time glow.
Preparing your skin for that summer glow is imperative to achieving silky soft skin. After the winter season we can often have a build up of dead skin cells which could cause ingrown hair and uneven skin. Skincare is essential during this period to remove the this build up and improve the circulation to the skin. To achieve an even glow and skin tone, I suggest doing a dry body brushing over the entire body at least 3 times a week. Dry body brushing is a method of body exfoliation that is performed by buffing dry skin with a special exfoliating brush to slough off the top layer of dead skin cells, smoothing its texture. It is important that you always move towards the direction of the heart for additional skin stimulation and lymphatic drainage.
For an additional exfoliation use a salt based body exfoliation applying and exfoliating in circular motions towards the heart. The salt helps to remove any dead skin build up and the oil base will help replace nourishment to the skin. Do this once a week for a bright glowing skin complexion. When exfoliating use more pressure on areas which you highlighted as being uneven and apply less pressure on the more sensitive areas. Please remember to not use your body exfoliant on your face, we always class these areas separately and it is therefore imperative that you only use facial exfoliation on your facial skin.
Supply the skin with addition nourishment by cleansing with the Elemis Frangipani cream whilst showering and finish with an application of Elemis Cellutox Body Oil or Frangipani oil for an even nourished tone. To improve the general health, skin tone and elasticity incorporate Collagen Powder in your morning yogurt and health juice.
Don’t forget to protect your skin from the harmful damage of the African sun by ensuring you and your family apply factor 50 sun protection before exposing your skin to the sun. Now you are ready to enjoy the glorious South African December weather!
